Jul 05, 2019 · A few days ago I installed a NAS drive (specifically a Synology NAS DiskStation DS418) for one of my clients. During the installation, my client asked to have the ability to access the NAS shared files over the Internet in an easy way (e.g. as another drive in Windows Explorer) and without using Synology's Web interface (which is excellent for making basic tasks).

If you find the mac address on the sticker on the back of the synology it has 12 numbers with no spacing. They must be arranged in the following order xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx If you access the mac address via system information you need to substitute the "-" for ":", that is instead of xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, you need to input it as xx:xx:xx:xx:xx The point of the post is to provide dynamic ‘A’ records to the Synology DNS server from the DHCP server ALSO running on Synology. And so an IP address provided via DHCP on a Synology NAS to any networked device including some Apple iDodad will work as expected. These devices all work fine with the previous Home hub 4 and could connect to the NAS without any issue. I have set the NAS to a static IP address outside the DHCP range set on the home hub, but it doesn't help. When I viewed the device list on the media server on the NAS, I don't seem to find the above devices listed yet. In order to port forward, the destination device (your NAS) will have to have an IP address reserved by Google WiFi. If it isn't showing up in the list of devices, it's likely it has been configured to use a static IP address instead of having Google WiFi assign an address dynamically via DHCP.
